Usable Wedding party favors?

I am all about the guests being able to use their party favors, and not throwing them away or stuffing them in a box, and looking at them 20 years down the road, anyone have any excellent thought’s?

Well, I don’t know what you reckon about this, but I am having sun catchers. I too wanted something useful and didn’t really want to go the ‘dust collector’ route. I thought sun catchers would be nice since they hang in the window, look really pretty and people will reckon of you and your husband every time they look at them. And they will look at them. I ordered all of mine off e-bay, they are really chandelier prisms, but I am going to string a ribbon through them and attach a small card to them thanking the Guests for coming. It has worked out to about 2.00$ each.

I’m going to do a cd with music we plot on playing at our wedding. You can do something edible, I hear those are the best ones.

Something they can eat. Some Thoughts:

    -Candy Bar
    -Chocolate Covered Strawberries
    -Fudge
    -Personalized Candy Bars
    -M&Ms
    -Hershey Kisses
-Mini bottles of wine or champagne.

Well this might not be usable to your guests 20 years down the road, but I like the thought of giving a donation in your guests’ honor. Depending on what charity you choose, your donation could save a child’s life or a cancer patient’s life or feed starving children.

There are tons of charities you can do this for.

Here is a link to a website that can help you:
    http://www.idofoundation.org/welcome/fav...

But much money you plot to spend on favors you can donate and just place a small card or scroll at each place setting letting your guests know that in lieu of a favor you have donated to your favorite charity in their honor.

Personalized wedding favors are cute, but not practical. Unless the guest is very close to you, what will they do with a personalized candle holder (for example)?

Donating goes to a fantastic cause and can be appreciated by all.

EDIT: I’M NOT SURE WHY I GOT THUMBS DOWN FOR THIS ANSWER?!?! WHAT IS Incorrect WITH PEOPLE? WHAT IS Incorrect WITH WANTING TO DONATE TO A Excellent CAUSE? I WILL BE DONATING TO A CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL AND I’M SURE THAT MY GUESTS AND THOSE POOR KIDS WITH LEUKEMIA WILL APPRECIATE MY DONATION MORE THAN MY GUESTS WOULD APPRECIATE A PICTURE FRAME. (NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE SUGGESTING A PICTURE FRAME…JUST AN EXAMPLE).

Someone had a cute suggestion of reusable grocery bags with a customized logo on it.

"To have and to hold… all of our groceries."

    Excellent luck, and congratulations.

River: I could never accept credit for such a cute thought. I read it off someone on here, whose name escapes me.

I’m struggling with the same question! I’ve been searching tons of sites to find useful things myself. Here are some thoughts I’m considering:

~Personalized kitchen items: heart-shaped measure spoons, a whisk (since you’re "whisked away"), fun shaped timers, personalized oven mitts, salt and pepper shakes, etc. They’re best if just one family gets one (instead of one for EVERY person), but they’re useful and will help remind people of the day every time they use the ice cream scoop! I’m considering salt and pepper shakes like this adorable ones: http://www.beau-coup.com/two-peas-salt-pepper-shakers.htm

~Edible items. That way, people will eat and delight in them and not be burdened with small trinkets. They can even make photo cookies! http://www.weddingfavorsunlimited.com/Cookie_Wedding_Favors.html

~Personalized mugs with personalized tea bags inside each one

~Desk items like pens, notepads, etc.

~Order things from a corporate logo sort of place, that makes items for business giveaways and that sort of thing. They make EVERY type of object imaginable and you can get thermal mugs, tote bags, shirts, clocks, WHATEVER and add a message :) http://www.branders.com/s/personalized-items.htm

I received an ice cream scoop like the one below.(The pizza cutter is also clean) Everyone was saying how cool it was. It’s something that everyone from a child to an adult can use and you only have to buy enough for each couple or family instead of every person which lowers the price but still makes it seem like something more expensive.

I liked the one with lottery tickets and a penney with it. The tag said Bet on like and had the bride and grooms name and wedding date on it.
Full credit to Ashley on the last question I read.
"Remember" is right with the heart shaped measuring spoons, and they make a heart shaped measuring cup ring, too. You could expand on that to include a recipe card with cute like/wedding themed recipes, even place a bottle of spice with it, remeber that cute small saying about sugar and spice and everything nice, that’s what small girls are made of? The one for a boy I don’t remeber so well, something about snips and snails and puppy dog’s tails. I will try to find it and get back.
Got back, no, can’t reckon of anything cute for the small boys’s poem. And place in the bride and grooms name and date of wedding and something about grown up now. Maybe you can reckon up something cute for the small boys poem to place in the gift..

Our centerpieces were 10 inch vases, and then we surrounded them with 7 inch vases. The 7 inch vases were the favors that our guests took home.

I attended a wedding where they gave Mikasa candy dishes, and another one where they gave a decorative platter.

My husband and I take wedding photos as a leisure activity. We have a fantastic thought that we have used, and is well received by all the guests. It takes some doing, and will probably only work if you have a friend take your wedding pics. The thought is to have your wedding photo on the table at your wedding reception.

Here’s how… An hour before the wedding, have your photo taken with the groom. Use a digital camera with a fresh memory chip in it. Take about 8-10 pictures on this memory chip. Take the chip out of the camera, and hand it to another person, a friend of the photographer, or someone who can pick out a excellent picture. This person is "the runner". The runner takes the chip to a 1-hour photo store, picks out the best picture, and selects a formal boarder to go around the photo. Add text saying "Ben and Amanda June 12, 2008" or whatever. Then places an order for one for each of your guests…150, 200, etc.

The runner waits for the photos to print, and then takes them to the reception site. The runner, or the caterer puts one photo at each place setting. When your guests arrive, they each have a keepsake of your wedding. Aunt Edna doesn’t have to wait for you to send her a photo of the wedding, she has one straight away! And trust me, that will make you pleased, too.

If you do this, I would suggest talking to the manager of the store a day ahead of time to let them know you are coming in at a specific time with a large order.

We have done this more than once, and it’s worked well. Just make sure your memory chip is clean with no extra photos on it. You don’t want to be wading through 200 photos when you are on a time crunch.

My BF and I were talking about this last night. It isn’t useful for everyone, but most of his friends are musicians in bands and whatnt, so he wants guitar picks with this small design he made. For what I want, I’m really just printing up small placecards that say something to the effect of:

Thank you for sharing our special day with us. In honour of our guests a contribution has been made to the Buffalo Sabres Foundation (insert charity or cause of your choice), with a website they can check out the charity at.

Then the money that would have been spent on plastic swans will be donated.

I want all my guests to submit a family recipe, a picture, and a note describing what like means to them. I’m going to give each family or individual a copy as a favor. I’m marrying a chef so it fits our situation.
