Wedding favors are the couple’s token of appreciation for the guests. If you are really on a budget, leaving them out won’t necessarily cause irreparable harm. But I would advice that before deciding on really leaving the favors out, maybe you can canvas on favors that are cheap and adorable. But, if your budget can’t accommodate it, then leaving it out would be just fine.

I like the thought of wedding favors but I don’t reckon it will be detrimental if you don’t have them. The guests are there to celebrate your special day with you, no one is going to be mad about not receiving favors. Have you thought about maybe something edible? I reckon edible favors are the best route to go when it comes to favors. I saw an thought with candy filled jars that the guest could fill their own bags with. I thought that was different; might be less expensive too.

wedding favors are a relatively new invention, just one more thing thought up by the bridal industry to make money. i didn’t have any at my wedding, and as far as i know that was fine with everyone. ive never been to a wedding, either as a guest or working for a caterer, where anyone gave a second thought to the wedding favors. most of that stuff gets thrown out or place in a back closet. don’t worry about it

Not really THAT vital, but guest might want to take them as a memento to the special occasion. I usually take a program, favor and a napkin as a memento.

Want a cheap favor. You can spend under 15 bucks if you do it my way.

You can get a 12 pack of bubbles for 1.00 at Dollar Tree. Buy like as many as you need ( i don’t know the size of your wedding.)

Walmart sells satin ribbon 33 cent a spool in a excellent amount of colors. You can buy these, make small bows and hot glue them to the bubbles. You can also find ribbon 2/1.00 at Leisure activity Lobby and Michael’s.

you say you guys are on a tight budget. Try Dollar Tree for alot of things…you can save so much money there.

You can also find favor boxes and fill them with candy.

Not vital at all. Spend that money on food and entertainment. (aka the things guests really like and will remember)

If your budget doesn’t fit them in, no one’s going to miss them. If you still want to do something on a smaller budget maybe do some bite-sized chocolate (like this http://www.weddingsbydezign.com/hemichba.html ) or donate to charity. If you go the donation route, you could either make a sign for the reception or have small home-made slips at each place that say:

In place of favors, we have donated to (insert charity). We chose this group because (insert reasons that are vital to the both of you). Thank you for helping us celebrate our special day!"

They really aren’t that vital, I have been to many weddings that have not had favors. If you feel like you want them, or that guests would be miserable not to have them, here are a few cute but inexpensive thoughts I have seen recently:

Small bags of the groom’s favorite candies

Seed packets (garden wedding)

Home made, heart shaped sugar cookies with the date on them

Cupcakes

Favor boxes stuffed with mints

Votive candles with a paper ring around them that said "I’ve found the light of my life"

Caramel apples that said "he’s the apple of my eye"

Someone took plastic spoons, dipped the spoon end in chocolate to make a fancy stirring spoon for coffee, and tied them in colored plastic bags.

Someone burned a cd for each guest with the bride and groom’s favorite songs, and made the mark for the cd from an engagement photo of the couple. Each cd had the guest’s name on it, and was used as their place card.

But again, like I said earlier, favors aren’t that huge of a deal, and most people forget about them later anyway. Do what is best for you, no one who likes you wants to see you go broke!

I personally don’t see an absolute need for them and have never been offended when they aren’t there. It is a nice gesture to say ‘thanks for coming’ – but it could be as simple as some tulle circles with small wedding mints inside tied up with a piece of ribbon and one of those cheesy plastic wedding rings…
