I'm plotting a birthday party for my daughters who in turn four and I need some thoughts for party favors. Help!

My dad's 50th is next week, July 3. My mother and I have pulled together a small group (25-30 people) and want to distribute favors. Something small and cheap and simple to do. The party is the theme on July 4, if something red / white / blue patriotic would be preferable.

I am a marriage is out, and to the game, I am receiving gift boxes to fill with small candies. I do not reckon that chocolate works, as it melts. Other thoughts to make candy to fill them?
