Party favors?

For my son’s first birthday this summer, I’m having a Huge party- since we weren’t able to have a huge christening-(a tradition in our family). My question is this…do I have to buy all of the children that will be there a favor? I have some 10yrs + older children coming. Is there a cut off? I’m giving small tote bags with Elmo things in it…nothing that the older kids will like. I don’t know what to do.

We always have a variety of ages at our parties.

What I do is give goodie bags with treats the theme of the party in them to the younger crowd. I make one for each child that I know would still delight in one.

Then, I buy a candy bar or pack of gum for the huge kids. That way, they are still included and if a "middle age" child felt left out from getting a goodie bag, they then feel like a "huge guy" when the huge kids get their treat!

I reckon this has been a excellent compromise for us. The "small" ones look forward to graduating to the candy bar because they always like to feel like one of the huge guys.

Just one thought,

If it’s just family, I wouldn’t bother with the favors at all!?! Just having time to spend together with their cousins, should be fun! Why waste the money on small plastic, cheap party favors, when they could get broken easily. If you want to give them anything, maybe buy a Pinata and fill it with candy that children of all ages could have (fruit stacks, crackers, suckers). That way everyone gets a small something, and no one feels left out!

I would either do candybars with as slip cover with the Elmo theme on it or do the pinata.
